OAKLAND, Calif. (CN) – A baby girl will need ongoing care because of birth-related injuries, her parents claim in Alameda County Superior Court.

Ariella Cortes, by and through her guardian ad litem and mother, Ariana Cortes, and Ariana Cortes individually, sued Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and The Permanente Medical Group, Inc. for negligence. Ariella’s father Benito Cortes also sued for loss of consortium.
As a result of Kaiser’s mistakes, Ariella Cortes, “suffered severe physical and emotional injury, has incurred and will in the future incur expenses for medical care, nursing care, attendant care, rehabilitation, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, educational therapy and related expenses,” the lawsuit states.
The Cortes family seeks economic and non-economic damages, interest and a jury trial. They are represented by Philip Michels of the Law Offices of Michels & Lew in Los Angeles.
