Man Died from Bad Medication Reaction, Family Claims

     SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CN) - A man died from a bad reaction to gout medication, his family claims in Sacramento County Court.

     Baljit Kaur, widow of Jaswant Kanwal, and their two grown children Jaspreet and Gurpreet Singh, sued Northern California Permanente Medical Group and Javaid Akhter, M.D., for medical malpractice and wrongful death.
     According to the lawsuit, Dr. Akhter prescribed Allipurinol for Kanwal’s gout Sept. 12, 2012. Kanwal developed a bad reaction to Allipurinol called Stevens Johnson Syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis, and died Oct. 31, his family claims.
     Kanwal’s family seeks general and special damages, costs of suit and interest. They are represented by Dennis K. Wheeler of Rigg and Dean and by The Senators Firm, both of Irvine.
